Spring bargain hunting on rue du Haut in the Vimeu
On Sunday 29 March 2026, rue du Haut in Tours-en-Vimeu, in the industrial Vimeu region of the Somme, hosts its annual flea market. Organised by the Animation et Loisirs association, this friendly event combines private sellers and a few professionals in a village known for its heritage of locksmithing and tap-making.
Tours-en-Vimeu is a small rural town in the Vimeu, an industrial and agricultural region in western Somme, between Abbeville and the English Channel. Historically known for locksmithing and tap-making, the Vimeu has kept human-scale villages where local life relies heavily on associations.
Rue du Haut, the village's main street, turns into a long open-air market. Exhibitors set up in the early morning chill while the first bargain hunters arrive before 7 am. Clothes, toys, books, crockery, tools, old papers, small furniture and regional antiques fill the stalls.
Tours-en-Vimeu is not a tourist destination, and this is precisely the charm of its flea market. No crowds, no unaffordable antiques: people come for the atmosphere, to chat with neighbours, to stroll from stall to stall without rushing.
The Animation et Loisirs association has a simple system: €2.50 per linear metre, exhibitor arrival from 6 am, reserved spots held until 8 am. Visitors arrive from 8 am for a market running until 6 pm.
For Vimeu residents and neighbouring bargain hunters, this flea market is one of the first major spring events. Many combine the day with a trip to Saint-Valery-sur-Somme or Cayeux.
