Pierrefitte-sur-Loire is a small commune located in the extreme north of the Allier department, on the left bank of the Loire. The village, whose name evokes a standing stone (menhir or boundary stone), retains notable architectural heritage with its Romanesque church and the remains of its castle.

Like Diou and Dompierre-sur-Besbre, Pierrefitte-sur-Loire is one of the few communes in Bourbonnais located directly on the Loire.
