The annual flea market of Haute-Somme veterans
The UNC Péronne Flea Market is organised each late August by the local section of the Union Nationale des Combattants (National Union of Veterans). A discreet but well-established event in the Haute-Somme calendar, it brings together bargain hunters and exhibitors in the historic town of Péronne. Proceeds help fund the association's memorial and charitable activities.
The UNC Péronne Flea Market is organised by the Péronne section of the Union Nationale des Combattants, an association that has worked for decades to honour veterans' memory and support their families. This annual event in late August is not just a day of bargain hunting: it is also a way for the association to fund its work.
Péronne is a historic town marked by the Great War and its world-famous Historial. Exhibitors offer a typical Picardy selection: family bric-a-brac, crockery, clothing, books, toys, small furniture, old papers, postcards and some collectors' items. Military items naturally have a place of choice.
The atmosphere is that of fine provincial flea markets: relaxed and warm. UNC volunteers handle reception and refreshments. Seasoned bargain hunters meet Sunday strollers and militaria enthusiasts.
Péronne is the main town in the east of the department. Its medieval castle, its Great War Historial and its ponds make it a major tourist and memorial destination.
Through its associative anchoring, its memorial dimension and its warm atmosphere, the UNC Péronne Flea Market deserves a place on the Somme bargain hunter's calendar.
