Aups, Var truffle capital

Aups, a small Haut-Var town at the gates of the Verdon regional park, is one of France's black-truffle capitals. Its Thursday-morning truffle market in season (December-February) draws enthusiasts from across Europe. Beyond this gastronomic speciality, Aups offers rich medieval heritage (clock tower, Saint-Pancrace church, old belfry, ramparts) and active retail that makes it a true Haut-Var centre.

The brocante on Place de la Mairie

Place de la Mairie, one of Aups' main squares, periodically hosts the brocante. This central location near shops, restaurants and cafés eases the visit and maximises synergy with local retail. The town hall and old façades add heritage dimension.

Verdon and Canjuers proximity, agricultural and truffle life, Haut-Var peasant heritage : all colour the brocante. You find Provençal furniture (bread chest, two-body dresser, chest of drawers), tradition tableware (Moustiers faience, pewter, Provençal plates), embroidered linen, old farm and vineyard tools, wicker baskets, cellar objects. The brocante fits a Haut-Var day ideally. Aups itself deserves a heritage walk. Around : Verdon gorges 30 km away (D957 to Moustiers-Sainte-Marie), Sainte-Croix lake, Tourtour, Villecroze (with grottoes), Salernes (tomette capital). Local gastronomy – truffle in season, olive oil, Provence wines, honeys – extends the palate discovery.

Essential to combine with an Aups visit and, in winter, the Thursday truffle market. Allow a day for the Haut-Var. Cash. Lunch in central cafés. Extend toward Moustiers-Sainte-Marie or the Verdon gorges if time allows.
