Flea market and car boot sale on Whit Monday in Nant, "Garden of Aveyron", in the heart of the Parc du Claux
Every Whit Monday, the square and park of Le Claux in Nant are transformed into a vast open-air flea market. Broc'à Nant brings together between 50 and 100 exhibitors, individuals and professionals, who set up their stalls from 6 am on the lawns and shaded paths of this park located in the heart of the village. Initiated in the early 2010s by the association Nant Culture Loisirs, the event was taken over in 2025 by the Nant Festival Committee, keen to perpetuate this unmissable fixture in the Aveyron flea market calendar.
Nant, a commune of some 900 inhabitants nestled at the confluence of the Dourbie and Durzon rivers, is nicknamed the "Garden of Aveyron" thanks to the canal network created by Benedictine monks as early as the 10th century to drain the marshy lands of the valley. This ingenious irrigation system, still visible today through the vernèdes that wind beneath the village, transformed an inhospitable site into an oasis of greenery at the foot of the Grands Causses. The medieval village retains remarkable architectural heritage: the Romanesque Saint-Pierre abbey church (11th-12th centuries), a jewel of Rouergue Romanesque art, the 14th-century Saint-Jacques church, the Chapelle des Pénitents, the old market halls, and the Pont de la Prade bridge spanning the Dourbie since the 14th century.
The Parc du Claux, a vast green space in the heart of the village, offers an ideal setting for strolling among the stalls. Visitors can find antique and flea market items, tableware and ceramics, books and magazines, clothing and accessories, toys and games, tools and small furniture, as well as all sorts of trinkets and curiosities. The open space allows families to fully enjoy the day, with children able to play on the lawns while parents explore the stalls. Savvy bargain hunters arrive as early as 8 am to spot the best finds before the crowds.
The Nant Festival Committee provides refreshments and light catering throughout the day, allowing visitors to eat without leaving the site. The numerous bars, terraces, and restaurants in the village complement the offerings for those who wish to extend their culinary break. The atmosphere remains that of an authentic village festival, where bargain hunters, exhibitors, and locals come together in the conviviality typical of rural events in Aveyron. The day ends at 5 pm, leaving time to explore Nant's medieval streets or go for a walk in the Gorges de la Dourbie, one of the most beautiful natural sites in southern Aveyron.
Advance registration is mandatory for all exhibitors, whether individuals or professionals. Pitches are priced per linear meter: €2 per linear meter for a pitch without a vehicle (minimum 3 ml, i.e., €6), and €2 per linear meter + €5 for a pitch with a vehicle (minimum 5 ml, i.e., €15). Payment is made on site on the day. Exhibitors can set up from 6 am. Reservations can be made by email at [email protected] or by phone at 07 56 97 57 01.
