The 8 May flea market in the Beauplan neighborhood, a spring event in the Chevreuse Valley
The Bric Brac Broc in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse is a spring flea market held every 8 May in the residential Beauplan neighborhood, on the heights of the town. Organised by the Vivre les Hauts de Saint-Rémy association, it brings together private sellers and bargain hunters in a neighborhood atmosphere. Clothing, toys, books, knick-knacks and small furniture are offered at attractive prices, in the green setting of this iconic town of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Natural Park.
Every 8 May, Victory Day public holiday, the Beauplan neighborhood in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse hosts its traditional flea market named Bric Brac Broc. This event, organised by the Vivre les Hauts de Saint-Rémy association, has become an eagerly awaited event for residents of the town's heights and bargain hunters from the Chevreuse Valley. Set up on a car park or in a neighborhood street depending on the edition, it brings together around fifty exhibitors in a friendly and family atmosphere.
Unlike large gatherings of hundreds of exhibitors, Bric Brac Broc cultivates a neighborhood spirit. Exhibitors are mainly private individuals from Beauplan and the surrounding area, neighbors who know each other and take advantage of this day to clear out their wardrobes. The atmosphere is particularly relaxed, conversations flow easily and negotiation is done with a smile.
As in any private flea market, the offering is eclectic: clothing for the whole family, toys and games for children, books, DVDs and CDs, crockery, small furniture, decorations, baby equipment, bags, costume jewelry, sports gear, bikes, and some curiosities depending on the exhibitors' moods. Prices, typical of private flea markets, allow everyone to leave with a few finds.
Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, a town of around 8,000 inhabitants, is a terminus of RER B, making it one of the most accessible towns in the Chevreuse Valley from Paris. Located at the heart of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Natural Park, it offers an exceptional green setting between forests, valleys and rivers (the Yvette). The Beauplan neighborhood, where the Bric Brac Broc takes place, is a residential area located on the heights, with individual houses and gardens.
Scheduled for 8 May, a public holiday commemorating the 1945 Victory, the event benefits from a rest day that allows families and Ile-de-France workers to come and browse peacefully. A refreshment bar and a few cakes prepared by the association's volunteers add a friendly touch to the day. Proceeds fund the neighborhood's community activities led by Vivre les Hauts de Saint-Rémy.
For visitors from outside, Bric Brac Broc is also an opportunity to discover or rediscover the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse: hiking in the woods, visiting the Château de la Madeleine in Chevreuse, walking along the Yvette, restaurants in picturesque villages.
