Annual street sale at the end of March in the town center of Les Andelys
Every end of March, the town of Les Andelys organizes its annual street sale in the streets of the town center. This event traditionally marks the beginning of the flea market season in the Norman city, which continues with monthly flea markets on the Quai de Seine and culminates in September with the Grand Déballage.
The March street sale brings together merchants, associations, and individuals who set up their goods in the streets and squares of the town. Clothing, shoes, accessories, books, trinkets, and everyday items are offered at bargain prices. The event combines the dynamism of a commercial street sale with the friendly spirit of a car boot sale, creating a popular and festive atmosphere in the heart of the medieval city.
Nestled in a bend of the Seine, about a hundred kilometers from Paris, the town of Les Andelys owes its fame to Château Gaillard, a fortress built in 1196-1198 by Richard the Lionheart to protect Rouen from the ambitions of the King of France. This romantic silhouette of medieval ruins dominates the town and the Seine from a cliff over 100 meters high. The collegiate church of Notre-Dame, with its remarkable Renaissance stained glass windows, and the half-timbered houses in the center complete a first-rate architectural heritage.
In 2026, the Braderie des Andelys is scheduled for Sunday, March 29. This late-month date, at the turn of the seasons, offers visitors a first opportunity to get out after winter to browse the lively streets of a town that knows how to welcome bargain hunters and deal seekers.
