About Moret Spring Sale

The Spring Sale of Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne is a commercial and festive event that marks the beginning of the fine season in this corner of southern Seine-et-Marne. Organized every year in May, it brings together merchants, private individuals and local associations in the streets of this new town dear to Alfred Sisley. An ideal opportunity to clear stock, browse and enjoy the atmosphere of a medieval city on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest.

The Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne Spring Sale: a May Highlight

At the beginning of May, Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne hosts its annual spring sale, a commercial and friendly event that extends the French tradition of great seasonal sales. Local merchants, private individuals and associations offer reduced-price items, second-hand objects and seasonal products in a festive atmosphere that marks the symbolic passage to the fine season.

A Living Commercial Tradition

Spring and autumn sales are among the most deeply rooted commercial traditions of small and medium-sized French cities. They allow downtown merchants to clear their winter items, associations to find an audience for their collection operations, and private individuals to participate in local life by selling what they wish to part with. In Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, the spring sale fits into this tradition while benefiting from the exceptional setting of a medieval city full of character.

A Unique Medieval Setting

Organized in the streets and squares of the historic center, the sale benefits from the remarkable heritage of Moret-sur-Loing, the delegated commune which hosts most of the events of the new town. Exhibitors deploy their stalls under the old facades, a stone's throw from the Burgundy gate, the Samois gate and the romantic banks of the Loing. The atmosphere is particularly pleasant in spring.

A Rich Cultural Destination

Visiting Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne is also diving into art history. The Impressionist painter Alfred Sisley spent the last years of his life in Moret-sur-Loing, where he painted some of his most beautiful paintings including the famous series on the Notre-Dame church. Today, the banks of the Loing and the cobbled streets offer visitors the same landscapes that inspired the painter, making each visit a true artistic stroll. The nuns' barley sugar factory, established in Moret since 1638, is another gourmet treasure not to be missed.

Fontainebleau and the Forest Nearby

Just a few kilometers away, Fontainebleau and its royal castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site, ideally complete a weekend in southern Seine-et-Marne. The Fontainebleau forest, with its rocky chaos, marked trails and panoramas, offers nature and hiking enthusiasts an exceptional playground less than an hour from Paris.
