Spring street sale in the streets of downtown La Fère
Every last Sunday of March, the town of La Fère organizes its big spring street sale in the main arteries of the city center. This event, which will soon celebrate its tenth anniversary, has become an anticipated commercial and festive gathering for residents from the entire Tergnier and Chauny area.
The street sale unfolds over a large area, from Rue du Bourget (starting from the Marie de Luxembourg College roundabout) to Place Paul Doumer and Rue de la République. Professional merchants set up their stalls, offering clothing, shoes, accessories, household items, and various objects at sale prices. The atmosphere is that of a large, lively, and colorful open-air market.
In addition to the commercial street sale, a free and open flea market is held on Place de l'Europe, near the museum. Spots are available without prior registration or fees, on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals and bargain hunters meet there to sell or find trinkets, tableware, books, toys, and second-hand furniture.
Once a stronghold on the banks of the Oise, La Fère offers an interesting heritage setting for this event. The town, known for its Jeanne d'Aboville Museum and its fortified remains, knows how to combine history and commercial dynamism through events like this spring street sale.
