Every year in March, the commune of Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat hosts its toy market. This family event, eagerly awaited by parents in the region, allows them to acquire second-hand toys, board games, plush toys, puzzles, and children's items at very affordable prices, while enabling sellers to give a new life to items still in good condition.
Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat (09000) is a commune of 1,352 inhabitants belonging to the Communauté d'Agglomération Pays Foix-Varilhes, 7 kilometers south-east of Foix. Located in the Ariège Pyrenees at an average altitude of 1,099 meters—with even higher peaks—the commune is crossed by the Ariège river and several streams.
The village is close to the Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises and benefits from a quality of life appreciated by families: two bakeries, a grocery store, and an active network of associations. The town hall, led by Michel Tartié since 2020, ensures the cultural and social dynamism of the commune.
The toy market in Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat brings together private sellers—parents and grandparents—who offer their used toys in a spirit of sharing and circular economy. Visitors will find board games, developmental toys, plush toys, model cars, dolls, puzzles, children's books, construction toys, and many other items. Prices are set freely by the sellers, allowing for interesting bargains for all budgets.
Admission is free for visitors, and the event is accessible to all families in the Foix-Varilhes area and beyond.
The month of March marks the beginning of spring in Ariège and the awakening of the Pyrenean nature. A visit to the toy market can be combined with a walk in the surroundings of Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat. Foix, 7 km away, offers its famous medieval castle and its market. The first spring hikes in the forests and meadows of the Ariège valley are accessible from the village.
The toy market is held in Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat (09000), usually in March. Information available from the town hall at 05 61 64 18 30. Free admission for visitors.
