May 1st flea market and traditional bread oven at Bergerie de Berdine
The Boisset hamlet, a small rural outpost of Saint-Martin-de-Castillon linked to the Bergerie de Berdine community, hosts its Bread Festival every 1st May. Organized in partnership with the farm, the event combines two essential Provençal traditions: popular bargain hunting and bread baking in a traditional oven.
From early morning, the bread oven is heated up. Throughout the day, amateur bakers or community members bake batches of country bread, olive fougasses, rye breads and milk rolls. Visitors can follow every step.
Around the oven and across the hamlet, around 50 private exhibitors set up stalls from 8 am to 6 pm. On offer: clothing, books, toys, tableware, small rustic furniture, tools and antique linens.
All day long, home-made catering offers spreads, soups, grills, seasonal vegetable tarts. Fresh oven bread accompanies the meals. People eat at communal tables.
