The flea market and village festival of the Selle valley
The Bacouel-sur-Selle Réderie is one of those village events that gives the Picardy word "réderie" its full meaning. In late August, villagers bring out their cellar and attic treasures for a day of shared bargain hunting and festivity. The word "réderie", specific to Picardy, describes a subtle mix of garage sale, family flea market and village festival.
The village hall of Bacouel-sur-Selle serves as an anchor point. Around it, some fifty exhibitors display their finds. The hall itself generally hosts the refreshment stand and activities.
Here, bargain hunting is resolutely family-oriented and authentic. Stalls are mainly held by villagers and neighbours, guaranteeing gentle prices and real diversity: crockery, children's and adults' clothing, toys, books, records, small appliances.
Bacouel-sur-Selle is a small rural village nestled in the green Selle valley, southwest of Amiens. Its preserved environment makes it ideal for walks.
Beyond the bargain hunting, this day has the flavour of old-fashioned village festivals. A refreshment stand run by volunteers, simple food, and that friendly atmosphere where everyone ends up meeting.
