The spring flea market of Auffargis, a small village in the Rambouillet forest
Auffargis is one of those small Yvelines villages nestled in the heart of the Rambouillet state forest, within the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse regional park. With around 2,000 inhabitants, millstone houses, an old church and surrounding forest paths, the commune perfectly embodies the charm of preserved Parisian villages. Every spring, the Auffargis flea market animates the streets and attracts browsers and families.
Run by the festivities committee and local associations, the Auffargis flea market is part of a tradition of rural events. It may not have the scale of large urban fairs, but it offers something more precious: an authentic atmosphere, direct exchanges with exhibitors and the conviviality typical of small communes.
Dealers and private individuals set up their stalls in the village streets, offering a wide variety of items: antique furniture, crockery, trinkets, paintings, books, toys, clothing, records, tools, small garden equipment and curiosities.
Auffargis' great asset is of course its location in the heart of the Rambouillet forest. After browsing the stalls, visitors can extend the day with a walk in the surrounding woods, a visit to the Étang Neuf or an escapade to the picturesque villages of the regional park.
Auffargis is accessible by car from Paris in less than an hour via the A13 and N12. An ideal escape for Parisians seeking authenticity and fresh air for a day.
