Weekly summer flea market on Saturdays in Argenton-sur-Creuse, the Venice of Berry
Every summer Saturday, Argenton-sur-Creuse hosts its weekly flea market in an exceptional setting. The town, nicknamed the "Venice of Berry" for its wooden balcony houses overlooking the river, offers a postcard-perfect backdrop for this summer event. Exhibitors offer antique furniture, trinkets, books, tableware, tools, decorative objects, and curiosities to tourists and locals who enjoy the summer warmth by the water.
Argenton-sur-Creuse is one of the prettiest towns in the Indre region. The half-timbered houses with balconies suspended over the Creuse river, the Vieux Pont (Old Bridge), the Notre-Dame des Bancs chapel perched on its rocky outcrop, and the medieval streets of the upper town form an architectural ensemble of rare harmony. The town has inspired many painters, including Claude Monet, who stayed there in 1889.
The Creuse Valley is a popular holiday destination for its preserved nature and heritage. Gargilesse-Dampierre, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France and dear to George Sand, is 15 km away. The Musée de la Chemiserie (Shirt Museum) and the Argentomagus site in Saint-Marcel complete the cultural offerings. The weekly summer flea market in Argenton is the common thread for a summer of discoveries in the heart of Berry.
Argenton-sur-Creuse is on the A20 motorway (exit 17 or 18), 30 km south of Châteauroux.
