Angles, between marsh and ocean

Nearly 3,000 inhabitants (boosted by many campsites in summer), between La Tranche-sur-Mer and Longeville-sur-Mer. Original territory: close to ocean (Phare beach a few km), Baie de l'Aiguillon, Lay river. Strategic position between marsh, forest and beaches.

Heritage: 11th-century Notre-Dame abbey and still-working salt pans. Several major campsites including renowned 4-star ones. Baie de l'Aiguillon Natura 2000 reserve for bird-watching.

Vary your visits: 1 May is traditionally busier (long weekend), 14 May Ascension attracts holidaymakers. La Tranche-sur-Mer (5 km) and Longeville-sur-Mer (10 km) beaches nearby.
