The traditional réderie of the Picardy Vimeu
Andainville is a small village of about 200 inhabitants nestled in the Picardy Vimeu, a southwestern Somme region traditionally specialized in locksmithing and fine metallurgy. Each spring, the town organizes its annual réderie.
Exhibitors, mostly villagers and neighbours, unpack in the streets a classic Picardy réderie range: tableware, family clothes, toys, books, vinyls, old papers, tools and hardware, small furniture. Hunters sometimes find objects linked to local craft: old locks, metalworking tools.
The Vimeu, a region traditionally devoted to small metallurgy (locks, plumbing, hardware), retains a marked industrial identity. Réderies sometimes reveal material traces of this history on their stalls.
"Réderie", typically Picardy, designates more than a simple flea market: a sharing moment where one comes as much to see neighbours as to hunt bargains.
