Charity brocante organized twice yearly by the AJD Foundation to benefit disadvantaged young people in Lyon 9th (Vaise)
The AJD Foundation Charity Brocante is far more than a simple second-hand market: it is an act of concrete solidarity with young people in difficulty. The AJD Foundation (Aide aux Jeunes Défavorisés), founded in Lyon, has worked for many years to support young people in social, educational and professional precarity. Its charity brocante, organized twice a year in the 9th arrondissement, is one of its main fundraising levers. By buying a piece of furniture, a book or a trinket, visitors contribute directly to the support programmes offered to young beneficiaries.
The AJD Foundation does things properly: its volunteers collect, sort and select donations from individuals and businesses throughout the year. The brocante offers a varied and carefully curated assortment: furniture (tables, chairs, bookshelves, chests of drawers), adult and children's clothing, books (novels, non-fiction, art books, children's books), tableware, ornaments, paintings, decorative objects, as well as electronics, tools and leisure items.
The decision to hold the brocante twice a year — in autumn and spring — is strategic: it maximises the collection and sale of items, maintains a steady flow of donations and visitors, and boosts the foundation's financial resources. The spring edition in April benefits from the renewed activity of the early warm season and households' desire to declutter after winter.
The AJD Foundation is based in Lyon's 9th arrondissement, a former industrial and working-class district on the right bank of the Saône, north of the 5th. The Vaise area — the heart of the 9th — has undergone a profound transformation since the 2000s with the creation of a modern business district, the rehabilitation of industrial wastelands and the arrival of new residents and businesses. Metro line D and the Saône quays facilitate movement. The AJD Foundation brocante upholds the community-minded tradition of an arrondissement that has not forgotten its working-class roots.
Lyon's 9th arrondissement is accessible by metro line D (Vaise or Gorge de Loup stop), TCL buses and the Saône quays. Parking available nearby.
