Twenty-nine editions of a Santerre institution
When a brocante reaches its 29th edition, it's no longer just an event: it's an institution. Davenescourt's is a case in point — a Santerre village that year after year offers a loyal rendezvous to bargain hunters. Twenty-nine editions means nearly three decades of shared history.
Davenescourt is in the Santerre, that agricultural plateau extending south-east of Amiens. Land of wheat, beetroot and potato, the Santerre is also a country of villages grouped around their church, imposing farms and straight roads. Memory of World War I is strong, the plateau having seen fierce fighting in 1918.
The name "brocante" suggests an event giving significant space to professional and semi-professional dealers alongside individual exhibitors. Expect antique furniture, collectibles, period crockery, quality knick-knacks, as well as all the family bric-a-brac typical of village flea markets.
In small villages, such events are motives of pride as much as moments of collective life. The 29 editions testify to a village's ability to sustain such a gathering over time.
Arrive early for the best pieces. Bring cash, a bag or a trolley. Take time to chat with exhibitors. Refreshments usually available. With this 29th edition, Davenescourt marks a milestone in its history.
