The autumn car boot sale of Toulonjac, second annual edition organized by the association Le Gerfaut en Ouest Aveyron
The association Le Gerfaut, a pillar of Toulonjac's cultural and associative life, organizes two car boot sales in the village each year: one in spring, usually in June, and another in late summer, as the school year approaches. This back-to-school edition, named "Vide Greniers et Brocante d'Automne" (Autumn Car Boot Sale and Flea Market), is distinct from the spring edition with its special end-of-summer atmosphere, when holidaymakers and residents enjoy the last fine days to clear out attics, cellars, and garages before autumn.
The event takes place along rue César de Pomairols, the main street of Toulonjac village, which runs through the town offering enough linear space to accommodate several dozen exhibitors. This street, named after a historic local figure, provides an ideal setting for a village car boot sale: wide enough for easy movement between stalls, lined with typical Rouergue stone houses, and easily accessible from the departmental road connecting Toulonjac to Villefranche-de-Rouergue, just three kilometers away.
Founded to promote culture, enhance and restore local heritage, and maintain Toulonjac's traditions, the association Le Gerfaut is a key player in village life. Notably known for organizing the Rencontres Musicales de Toulonjac, summer concerts whose proceeds contribute to the restoration of the Saint-Michel church, Le Gerfaut also actively participates in the daily life of the commune through its car boot sales, film club, and various workshops. The two annual car boot sales are part of this associative dynamic that keeps this small Aveyron village alive throughout the year.
Toulonjac benefits from a prime geographical location, on the edge of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, a royal bastide founded in 1252 and awarded the "Ville d'Art et d'Histoire" (City of Art and History) label. Bargain hunters attending the back-to-school car boot sale can easily extend their day with a stroll through the medieval streets of the bastide, under the arcades of the Place Notre-Dame, or a visit to the majestic Collégiale Notre-Dame. Toulonjac itself, with its approximately 700 inhabitants, retains an authentic rural charm: stone houses, shaded paths, and the rolling landscapes characteristic of Ouest Aveyron, a territory belonging to the Ouest Aveyron Communauté intercommunal structure.
The back-to-school car boot sale welcomes visitors from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with exhibitor setup possible from 6:30 a.m. The pitch is offered at a very accessible rate of €10 for 5 linear meters, encouraging wide participation. Entry is free for visitors. On-site, volunteers from Le Gerfaut provide light refreshments and drinks, allowing attendees to eat without leaving the event. Restrooms are also available. For any pitch reservations, please contact the association Le Gerfaut by email or phone.
