Treasure hunting under the trees of the working-class city park
The Lande Festival Committee invites bargain hunters to Jean-Jaurès Park in Carmaux for its traditional summer flea market. In the shade of the great trees of the former mining town's green lung, private individuals and occasional dealers display their treasures and forgotten items for a friendly day of hunting in the heart of Carmausin country, birthplace of Jean Jaurès.
Carmaux, former mining and glass-making town in northern Tarn, comes alive each summer thanks to the flea market organised in its Jean-Jaurès Park. This urban park, named after the socialist tribune elected deputy there in 1893, offers a particularly pleasant shaded setting for a day of summer hunting.
Organised by the dynamic Lande Festival Committee, a working-class neighbourhood of Carmaux, this annual event faithfully reflects the Carmaux spirit: popular, welcoming, united. Exhibitors, mostly locals from the town and neighbouring villages, display clothing, toys, books, tableware, small appliances, tools, curios and souvenirs from the industrial era of the coal basin.
The Carmausin-Ségala is a region that loves to tell its story. On the stalls you sometimes find pieces testifying to the rich industrial past: old miners' lamps, bottles and glasses from the Parfums de France factory, glass objects from the Albi Workers' Glass Factory, books on Jean Jaurès and trade unionism, old postcards of the miners' cottages.
Nearby, the Cap' Découverte mining museum offers a dive into the history of open-pit mining, while Jean Jaurès' birthplace recalls the town's tutelary figure.
The Lande Festival Committee invites bargain hunters to Jean-Jaurès Park in Carmaux on Saturday June 6th, 2026 for the new edition of its summer flea market.
