May 1st Car boot sale in the medieval village of Coaraze, village of the sun
The Vide-Greniers de Coaraze is held on May 1st in the Piovano olive grove and the village alleys. Coaraze, nicknamed the "Village of the Sun", is a medieval village perched at 650 m altitude in the Paillon valley, adorned with sundials by Jean Cocteau, Mstislav Dobuzhinsky and Henri Goetz. The car boot sale takes over this exceptional setting for a unique day of treasure hunting among olive trees and paved alleys.
Coaraze is a perched medieval village in the hinterland of Nice, listed among the most beautiful villages in the region. Nicknamed the "Village of the Sun" for its exceptional sunshine, it is famous for its sundials created by renowned artists: Jean Cocteau, Henri Goetz, Mstislav Dobuzhinsky and Valentin. On May 1st, the Piovano olive grove and the village alleys are transformed into a large car boot sale.
The treasure hunting route in Coaraze is unique. Stalls are set up in the Piovano olive grove, under the century-old olive trees, and then extend into the paved alleys of the medieval village, between stone houses and vaulted passages. The sundials adorning the facades add an artistic touch to this day.
At an altitude of 650 meters, about thirty kilometers from Nice via the Paillon valley, Coaraze has retained its medieval character and authenticity. The village, largely pedestrianized, offers spectacular panoramas of the valley and the surrounding peaks. The May 1st car boot sale is one of the highlights of village life.
