Old Village Flea Market of Lauris

A flea market in a postcard setting

Perched on its rocky outcrop above the Durance valley, Lauris is one of the most photogenic villages in the southern Luberon. Its narrow streets, old stone houses and shaded squares host each spring a flea market that takes over the entire old village. The event continues the tradition of convivial Provençal brocantes, where strolling pleasure takes precedence over bargain hunting.

A remarkable heritage setting

Lauris' old village is dominated by its 18th-century castle and its famous terraced gardens planted with Mediterranean species, including the Conservatory Garden of Dye Plants, unique in Europe. Stalls line the streets, in front of old doorways and on small squares, offering a hunting circuit that follows the village's steep contours. Alleys open onto belvederes with sweeping views over the Durance, cherry orchards and, on clear days, the Sainte-Victoire range.

What to find

Mainly a private-sellers' flea market: household bric-a-brac, Provençal tableware, linen, books, children's toys, clothing, small furniture, old tools, decorative objects. Collectors sometimes unearth Apt faience, Biot glassware or regional pottery pieces. Prices remain very reasonable.
