Écouen Garage Sale – A beloved springtime event in a town of art and history

Perched on a rocky hilltop overlooking the Val-d'Oise plain, Écouen is celebrated for its Renaissance château, now home to the Musée national de la Renaissance. Each spring, the town hosts one of the most popular flea markets in the northern Val-d'Oise: the Vide-Grenier d'Écouen, organised by the Association du Vide-Greniers d'Écouen (AVGE).

The Avenue du Maréchal Leclerc is transformed into an open-air treasure market stretching over several hundred metres. With nearly 400 exhibitors, this is one of the largest garage sales north of Paris. Every inch of pavement fills with second-hand furniture, crockery, clothing, toys, books and a vast range of curious objects.

A well-organised event by AVGE

The AVGE runs a well-oiled operation: vendors register in advance, pitches are allocated, and a refreshment stand operates throughout the day at 58 rue du Maréchal Leclerc. Vendors may set up from 6am; visitors are welcome from 8am. A complimentary coffee is offered to each exhibitor before 8am on presentation of their pass.

Combining culture and bargain-hunting

The event can be combined with a visit to the Château d'Écouen and its national Renaissance museum, open the same day. The lively town centre offers shops and green spaces for a full day out.
