Big village hunt at the foot of the castle
At the foot of Bioule's medieval castle, this annual flea market takes over the village streets and community hall every May for a festive day of hunting. Organised by local associations, it offers a complete formula: a general flea market through the village, a book and old paper fair indoors, and a vintage motorcycle and moped fair for enthusiasts. An eclectic, popular event in the heart of the Aveyron valley.
Bioule, a charming village in the Aveyron valley between Montauban and Caussade, boasts remarkable heritage dominated by its medieval castle, witness to Cathar lords and the Hundred Years' War. In this exceptional setting, the annual flea market unfolds every Sunday in May, turning the village streets into a vast hunting promenade. Sellers, mostly locals from the village, hamlets and neighbouring communes like Nègrepelisse, Albias or Saint-Étienne-de-Tulmont, set up across the village.
What makes Bioule special is its triple formula. First the general flea market spreading through the village along the chemin de Perayret and adjoining streets: crockery, clothes, toys, books, family brocante, small furniture, tools. Then, in the community hall, a book, postcard and old paper fair from 9am to 5pm, delighting bibliophiles and ephemera collectors. Finally, throughout the village, a vintage motorcycle and moped fair, a rarer event that draws mechanical enthusiasts from across the department.
Registration closes by mid-May for sellers, at very accessible rates: €5 for two meters of flea-market pitch, €5 per meter for the indoor book fair, €3 per meter for the motorcycle fair. The volunteer-run refreshments and snacks let you hunt all day.
Bioule is worth visiting beyond the flea market. Its private castle, alleys, church and immediate proximity to the Aveyron offer a perfect day-trip setting. The Aveyron gorges and the perched villages of Bruniquel and Penne are nearby.
For the unique triple formula, the heritage setting, accessible prices, variety of goods and festive May atmosphere in the Aveyron valley: Bioule's flea market is a must of spring in Tarn-et-Garonne.
