A garage sale by the Vienne river

Availles-Limouzine is a rural commune of about 1,100 inhabitants at the south-eastern tip of the Vienne, on the banks of the Vienne river and near the Charente and Haute-Vienne borders. Palet Club Availlais, a local association devoted to the traditional Poitou palet game, runs its 3rd garage sale on Sunday 26 April 2026 at the village hall car park. A second date: 8 May 2026.

A lively event

Open 7am-5pm, with around 20 private sellers in the hall car park. Beyond thrifting, activities make it a pleasant family day:

Availles-Limouzine, gateway to Limousin

The name makes the Limousin border location obvious. Medieval bridge, old houses, interesting church, wild Vienne river — good for fishing, summer swimming, riverside walks. A small rural commune where associations are vital; hence the importance of this garage sale.

Poitou palet, a local tradition

The Palet Club plays palet, a traditional Poitou game: throw metal disks toward a target ('master') puck. Many variants (on plank, lead, iron) with regional specifics. Palet clubs are pillars of village sociability — their tournaments, garage sales and dinners animate the year.

Visiting tips

Come early for the best finds (opens 7am). Use the event to explore the Vienne valley: fishing, kayaking, riverside walks. Nearby: Confolens (Charente, 15 min), Le Vigeant and its lake, Lussac-les-Châteaux and La Marche cave. Come back on 8 May.
