Annual car boot sale in the village of Chassey, at the foot of Auxois
Chassey is a tiny village of 87 inhabitants located in the Pays d'Auxois, between Semur-en-Auxois and Venarey-les-Laumes. Every year in June, the village organizes its annual car boot sale on rue Haute du Moulin, in the historic heart of the village. This intimate event is a popular gathering for bargain hunters who appreciate the small rural flea markets of Burgundy.
With a handful of exhibitors set up along the village's main street, the Chassey car boot sale cultivates a very intimate format. Clothes, toys, books, crockery, trinkets, garden tools, and attic items are displayed side-by-side in a friendly atmosphere. Visitors appreciate the village's tranquility and the opportunity to chat at length with each exhibitor, far from the crowds of large urban flea markets.
Chassey is part of the canton of Semur-en-Auxois, in the Armançon valley. The village, dominated by the rue Haute du Moulin where the town hall is located, is surrounded by pastures and forests typical of the Auxois bocage. Near the archaeological site of Alésia and the medieval town of Semur-en-Auxois, Chassey is one of those discreet villages that make rural Burgundy charming.
The Chassey car boot sale is a moment of village conviviality that attracts residents from surrounding communities and lovers of rural flea markets. Rue Haute du Moulin, lined with Burgundian stone houses, offers a picturesque setting for this day of bargain hunting. This countryside event is one of the small local happenings that punctuate the life of Auxois villages throughout the year.
