Summer car boot sale around the abbey church and the Market Square in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne
Every August, the Place du Marché in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne hosts a car boot sale that benefits from a remarkable heritage setting. Around the Romanesque Saint-Pierre abbey church and its famous Last Judgment tympanum, exhibitors' stalls are set up for a summer day of treasure hunting. Visitors can find second-hand items, trinkets, tableware, books, and a thousand curiosities in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Nestled in a meander of the Dordogne, Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne is a medieval town whose exceptional heritage attracts visitors and Romanesque art enthusiasts. The sculpted tympanum of the Saint-Pierre abbey church, created in the 12th century, is considered one of the masterpieces of Romanesque sculpture in France. The ancient streets, half-timbered houses, quays along the river, and the Chapel of the Penitents form an architecturally harmonious ensemble. The town benefits from a mild microclimate, earning it the nickname "Limousin Riviera".
The car boot sale site, near the multi-purpose hall, has a fully shaded area that offers appreciable comfort in the height of summer. The refreshment stand and on-site catering allow visitors to cool down and eat without leaving the premises. After treasure hunting, a stroll through the medieval streets or along the banks of the Dordogne is a must to complete this summer day.
