Mouilleron-Saint-Germain is a south-east Vendée commune created in 2016 by merging Mouilleron-en-Pareds and Saint-Germain-l'Aiguiller. Mouilleron-en-Pareds is famous as the birth village of two great figures of the French Republic: Georges Clemenceau, WWI prime minister, and Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, Marshal of France who signed the German surrender for France in 1945.

The plant swap, 2026 edition Sunday 7 June, is part of the village's spring association calendar. Plant swaps are a growing tradition: amateur gardeners meet to swap cuttings, seedlings, seeds and above all advice, in a spirit of ecological solidarity and sharing.

The swap principle

Unlike a plant fair with sales, swaps rely on exchange. Everyone brings their garden surplus (cuttings, perennial divisions, seedlings, seeds, bulbs) and leaves with others' contributions. No money changes hands: chat, exchange tips, grow your botanical collection for free. Beginners welcome, often helped by experienced growers.

A heritage village

Visit Mouilleron's two national museums: Clemenceau's birthplace and the Clemenceau-de Lattre national museum. Both run by the Centre des monuments nationaux, they tell the lives of two great men and their Vendée roots. The village also has fine old houses and a notable church.

Bring well-labelled plants and cuttings (name, aspect, size); prepare your own containers for what you take; come open-minded to discover varieties; ask questions.
