The chine gatherings of the La Lande district
Several times a year, the La Lande Festival Committee hosts its flea markets in Jean-Jaurès park, Carmaux, just off boulevard Charles de Gaulle. From May to July, these brocantes are among the most regular bargain-hunting events in the Carmaux coal basin. Private sellers set up under tall trees, with a traditional tripous meal prepared by committee volunteers.
The La Lande Festival Committee is part of the essential community fabric of Carmaux, a former mining town in northern Tarn. For decades, this volunteer organisation has animated the La Lande neighbourhood with a rich programme: patron saint festival, meals, spring and summer flea markets. The Jean-Jaurès park events have become one of the most regular and popular bargain-hunting events in the area.
Set at 11 boulevard Charles de Gaulle, the stalls unfold in Jean-Jaurès park, a green haven at the heart of Carmaux. Tall trees provide welcome summer shade, lawns and paths host comfortable stands. The park bears the name of the socialist orator born in the department, a key figure in the history of the mining basin.
Mostly private sellers with crockery, linen, books, toys, comic books, vinyl records, small furniture, children's and adults' clothing, various trinkets, tools. The park is large enough for dozens of exhibitors and relaxed browsing. Stalls open in the morning and often last into the late afternoon.
Beyond browsing, La Lande flea markets are known for their tripous meal prepared by committee volunteers. Typical of southern Aveyron and northern Tarn, tripous - slow-cooked sheep tripe bundles - are served with potatoes. Other activities punctuate the season: pétanque competitions, wood games, escape games depending on the edition.
Several editions throughout spring and summer. A chance to combine bargain hunting with discovering the Carmaux basin and its lively community spirit, heir to the area's solidarity traditions.
For 2026, the La Lande Festival Committee has scheduled several flea markets in Jean-Jaurès park: 18 April, 3 May, 31 May and 5 July. Dates to browse in the green setting of the park, enjoy the tripous meal prepared by volunteers and join the life of the La Lande neighbourhood.
On Saturday 18 April 2026, Jean-Jaurès park launched the La Lande Committee's season. Exhibitors, mostly locals, set up from early morning in a friendly spring atmosphere.
Visitors came throughout the day, enjoying stalls of trinkets, books, toys and small furniture. The bar and tripous meal were much appreciated. Next dates: 3 May, 31 May, 5 July 2026.
