The summer first-Sunday-of-August gathering in the Tarn-Agout
Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux, a charming Tarn-Agout bastide at the confluence of the Agout and Dadou rivers, hosts its big annual flea market every summer. Traditionally held on the first Sunday of August, it spreads through the village streets and around the village hall square. An open-air bargain-hunting day organised by the festival committee, drawing private sellers and bargain hunters from Castres, Lavaur and the whole Agout valley.
Founded in the 13th century, Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux owes its name to the confluence ("cap de joux", the joining) of the Agout and the Dadou. This former bastide, a historical centre of the Vaurais and Castrais country, has kept an interesting architectural heritage and genuine community dynamism. Ideally placed between Castres, Lavaur, Puylaurens and Graulhet, the commune attracts in summer both neighbours from nearby towns and holidaymakers visiting the Tarn.
This flea market is a classic of the Tarn-Agout summer calendar. Organised by the festival committee, it takes over the village streets on the first Sunday of August, particularly around the village hall square (place Belfortes / place Philippe-Pinel). Pitches stretch over several hundred metres, turning the village into a popular festival and offering visitors a peaceful stroll between the brick façades.
The offer, largely from private sellers, is typical of big Tarn flea markets: adult and children's clothing, baby gear, toys, books, comics, vinyl, crockery, linen, small appliances, tools, knick-knacks, decor, small furniture. The summer season and the area's tourist appeal also bring in more historical pieces: pottery, old documents, local earthenware and regional furniture.
The August atmosphere, Tarn warmth, shaded terraces and the festival committee's friendliness make this gathering much more than a flea market: a true summer festival. Visitors gladly extend the morning with a stop in the nearby Gaillac vineyards or a swim in the Agout, making for a 100% Tarn day out.
The 2026 Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux summer flea market is expected on Sunday 2 August, faithful to its first-Sunday-of-August tradition. Village streets and place Belfortes will welcome private sellers and bargain hunters for a friendly summer day in the heart of the Tarn-Agout. Programme to be confirmed by the festival committee.
