A flea market in Sainte-Victoire country

Pourrières is a Var village on the Bouches-du-Rhône border, at the foot of Sainte-Victoire with one of its finest views. A land of côtes de Provence vineyards, pine woods and garrigue, crossed by the historic N7. The town holds its annual flea market, traditionally a May Sunday. Reference edition: 14 May 2023, 6am-6pm with on-site catering.

Venue — Place Garcin or the village centre — offers a pleasant central setting with easy peripheral parking. Close to Saint-Maximin (10 min), Aix-en-Provence (30 min), Tourves (10 min) — popular with Var hinterland and Aix-area hunters.

Format

Seller registration at the markets office in the town hall, Avenue de Verdun. A 6am-6pm window suits pros (early), families (9-10am) and late-afternoon visitors.

Pourrières, wine village with history

Its name reportedly comes from the battle where Marius defeated the Teutons in 102 BC — commemorative stelae remain. Saint-Trophime church, Saint-Jean-Baptiste chapel, old fountains, sloping lanes. One of the finest Sainte-Victoire viewpoints from the heights.

Access

From A8 (Pourrières-Pourcieux exit) or N7 from Saint-Maximin. Peripheral parking on flea-market day. Hat, water, cash, bag, weather-ready clothes for May.

Extending the day

A great Sainte-Victoire base: marked trails to Pas du Diable or Cengle plateau. Visit côtes de Provence wineries. Aix-en-Provence at 30 min completes the day.
