Annual flea market organised by the village festival committee in the Marne valley
The Germigny-l'Évêque Flea Market is the major annual gathering organised by the village festival committee in this charming community of the Marne valley, Seine-et-Marne. Set up around Rue de l'Église, this spring event brings together private sellers and professionals for a friendly day devoted to antiques, furniture, clothing, and attic treasures. Near Meaux, Germigny-l'Évêque offers a rural, welcoming setting much appreciated by bargain hunters from northern Seine-et-Marne.
Each spring, Germigny-l'Évêque transforms for a day into a genuine treasure hunters' village. Organised by the Comité des Fêtes, the annual flea market unfolds its stalls along Rue de l'Église and adjoining streets, in the heart of a peaceful village bordered by the winding Marne river. This popular event, firmly anchored in the local festive calendar, attracts both locals and bargain-seekers from Meaux, Trilport and surrounding towns.
The Comité des Fêtes of Germigny-l'Évêque is a cultural and leisure association that enlivens village life all year round. Beyond the spring flea market, the volunteer team organises patron saint's day celebrations, seasonal animations and cultural projects. This brocante is one of their flagship events, as much for the pleasure of bargain hunting as for the warm reunion of the villagers.
Pitch fees, set at 3 euros per linear metre with a 4-metre minimum (6 metres for vehicles, 10 metres for trailers), reflect the organisers' wish to open the event to as many people as possible. Antique dishes, household linens, toys, vinyl records, books, small furniture and curios line the streets in a relaxed atmosphere where bargaining is part of the fun. On-site refreshments allow visitors to extend their stay throughout the day.
Nestled in a bend of the Marne about ten kilometres from Meaux, Germigny-l'Évêque owes its name to the former country residence of the bishops of Meaux. The village has preserved its old church, towpaths along the river, and a rural atmosphere that contrasts pleasantly with the urbanisation of northern Brie. The riverbanks, local guinguettes and forest trails make it a favoured summer getaway for Parisians.
A visit to the Germigny-l'Évêque flea market is often extended by an excursion through the Meaux area: the episcopal city of Meaux and its Saint-Étienne Cathedral, the Great War Museum, the medieval town of Crécy-la-Chapelle, or the Pâtis natural park. Food lovers will want to bring home a wheel of Brie de Meaux, the region's emblematic speciality.
The flea market is held around Rue de l'Église in Germigny-l'Évêque (77910), usually on a Sunday in May. Admission is free for visitors. Exhibitor fees: 3 €/linear metre (4 m minimum, 6 m for vehicles, 10 m for trailers). Information and registration through the Comité des Fêtes de Germigny-l'Évêque.
