Garage sale associated with the legendary Fête des Roses of Brie-Comte-Robert, historic rose capital
The Comité Fête des Roses garage sale is one of the major events of festive life in Brie-Comte-Robert, a medieval city linked for centuries to rose cultivation. Organized by the Comité Fête des Roses, it accompanies the celebrations of the 79th Fête des Roses 2026, which perpetuate a tradition dating back to 1867. In the historic town center, around the château and under the aegis of the Rose Queen, bargain hunters enjoy a festive and heritage-rich atmosphere unique in Seine-et-Marne.
Every year in June, the Brie-Comte-Robert Fête des Roses Committee organizes its major annual garage sale, associated with the festivities of the famous Fête des Roses that makes the Brie town famous. This event is part of an exceptional heritage context: Brie-Comte-Robert has maintained a special relationship with rose cultivation since the 19th century, and the Fête des Roses, whose 79th edition is held in 2026, is one of the oldest and most emblematic floral events in Île-de-France.
The history of the Brie-Comte-Robert Fête des Roses dates back to 1867, when a great rose exhibition was organized in the city, with exhibitors received by Empress Eugénie at the Tuileries Palace. It was in 1949 that the Syndicat d'Initiative organized the ancestor of the modern Fête des Roses under the name Grande Fête Régionale, marked by a parade of musical societies and fanfares, the Queen and her ladies-in-waiting paraded in a 1930s convertible, and an evening ball with illuminated fountains. Since then, the tradition has never died out, and the Fête des Roses continues each year to celebrate this unique bond between the city and the queen of flowers.
The Fête des Roses Committee is the association that today organizes all the festivities. Its volunteers work year-round to prepare the parade, the proclamation of the Queen, the plant fair, the fair of old trades, and all the animations that punctuate the Fête des Roses weekend. The June garage sale is one of their major events: it both funds the Committee's activities and creates an additional festive moment for residents of Brie and the surrounding area.
The garage sale takes place in the historic town center of Brie-Comte-Robert, near the magnificent medieval château whose imposing ruins recall the city's prestigious past. Individuals and occasional exhibitors offer a wide variety of items: clothing, toys, books, vinyl records, dishware, small furniture, decor, trinkets, and curiosities. The town center layout allows bargain hunters to combine their stroll with the discovery of local heritage: Saint-Étienne church, the ramparts, the old character houses, and of course the château.
Brie-Comte-Robert is a town rich in history, founded in the 12th century by Robert I of Dreux, brother of King Louis VII. Its château, now partly restored, was one of the residences of the Counts of Dreux and then passed through the hands of several illustrious lords. The city retains a remarkable medieval heritage and a strong identity, linked to the rose and floral traditions. It is also a very dynamic city, close to Paris and well-served, which welcomes a population mixing long-time residents and newcomers.
Combining the Fête des Roses Committee garage sale with the discovery of Brie-Comte-Robert and its medieval heritage is a complete experience. It's an opportunity to experience a bargain hunting event in a rare historical setting, driven by a passionate association that has perpetuated one of the most beautiful floral traditions of Île-de-France for decades.
