Solidarity flea market at the Florentine Carnoy nursing home
The Warloy-Baillon flea market takes place every year in the unique setting of the Florentine Carnoy nursing home. This original event, in the heart of the Poppy Country, brings together private exhibitors and bargain hunters in an intergenerational atmosphere where bargain hunting mingles with sharing with the residents of the establishment. A beautiful Picardy idea for a friendly and solidarity-based day in this historic Somme village.
Warloy-Baillon is a village in the Pays du Coquelicot (Poppy Country), this history-laden part of the Somme between Amiens and Albert, marked by the major events of the First World War. Every year, the community flea market takes place in an original venue: the grounds of the Florentine Carnoy EHPAD, the community's nursing home. This particular configuration gives the event an intergenerational and solidarity dimension that distinguishes it from classic flea markets.
Setting up the flea market in the EHPAD park allows residents of the establishment to enjoy the animation, meet visitors and rediscover the pleasure of village festivities. The proceeds of the event, organized by the EHPAD team, staff and volunteers, are generally donated to activities and outings for residents. Bargain hunters who come to Warloy-Baillon thus participate in a beautiful local initiative, while enjoying a day of treasure hunting in a peaceful setting.
The exhibitors, mainly residents of the village and neighboring communities, offer the classic flea market assortment: dishware, household linen, clothes for the whole family, old and new toys, books, comics, records, small furniture, tools and various trinkets. The atmosphere, calmer and more family-oriented than in large urban réderies, invites strolling and exchanges with exhibitors as well as residents.
Warloy-Baillon is part of the Poppy Country territory, this area of the Somme around Albert which takes its name from the emblematic flower of the First World War battlefields. The village, crossed by the small Hallue river, has about 900 inhabitants and retains a strong rural identity. Visitors can extend their day by discovering the village, the rolling landscapes of the area and the many memorial sites of the Battle of the Somme nearby, or by pushing on to Albert and its basilica.
