The 2nd largest flea market in France, at the heart of Amiens
The Grand Spring Réderie of Amiens is the 2nd largest flea market in France, after the Braderie of Lille. Every 3rd Sunday of April, around 2,000 individual and professional exhibitors invade 51 streets of the town centre over 15 km of pavement. 80,000 visitors from France, Europe and around the world flock to this great hunting gathering, a living Picardy institution for over a century.
For over a century, the Grande Spring Réderie of Amiens has been one of France's greatest flea market events. On Sunday 19 April 2026, from 5am until 7pm, the centre of Amiens will be transformed into a huge open-air commercial space, occupied by around 2,000 exhibitors – individuals and professionals combined – spread over 51 streets and more than 15 kilometres of pavement, i.e. around 15,000 m² of display area. It is, after the famous Braderie of Lille, France's 2nd largest flea market, attracting up to 80,000 visitors from the region, from all over France, but also from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada and even Australia.
The Grande Réderie of Amiens takes place twice a year: a spring edition, on the 3rd Sunday of April, and an autumn edition (the 1st Sunday of October). Each attracts considerable crowds, but the spring edition has a particular charm with the first fine days of the year, packed café terraces and the effervescence of a city gently emerging from winter. The word "réderie", specific to Picardy vocabulary, refers to this great popular display where everyone comes to empty their attics, and it has here taken on a scale unique in France.
The Grande Réderie of Amiens offers a unique diversity of goods. Professionals – antique dealers, flea market dealers, specialists – bring antique furniture, collectibles, antiques, militaria, numismatics, silverware, porcelain, paintings and valuable trinkets. Individuals empty their attics and offer family tableware, vintage clothes, records, books, childhood toys, tools, trinkets and curiosities at accessible prices. This mix makes the event's richness: you'll find both the rare piece coveted by knowledgeable collectors and the anecdotal €2 item, ideal for families on a Sunday outing.
Amiens is the largest city in Hauts-de-France and a major heritage destination. Its Notre-Dame cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in France, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1981. The hortillonnages – floating gardens cultivated since the Middle Ages on the Somme canals – offer a unique landscape. The Saint-Leu district, its colourful houses and canals nicknamed the "Little Venice of the North", houses numerous cafés, restaurants and antique dealers, all open during the Réderie. Jules Verne lived there for nearly 20 years, and the writer's house can be visited. The Réderie is the perfect opportunity to combine bargain hunting and cultural discovery of the city.
The atmosphere of the Grande Réderie of Amiens is unique: from 5am, the first bargain hunters arrive with headlamps, looking for the rare piece before others. Then the crowd swells during the morning, reaching its Sunday peak between 10am and 2pm, with a human tide slowly flowing through the pedestrian streets. Between stalls, cafés and bars overflow onto the pavements, food trucks offer Picardy specialities and world cuisines, street musicians animate the crossroads.
For a first visit to the Grande Réderie, some advice: arrive early (before 9am to avoid the densest crowds), wear comfortable shoes as you walk a lot, bring a big bag or trolley for purchases, have change for small individual stalls, don't hesitate to negotiate (it's the game!), and above all enjoy the unique atmosphere of this event. Public transport and SNCF (Amiens central station) are strongly recommended, parking being very difficult on Réderie day.
