The great Ascension Thursday tradition in the Tarn
A long-standing tradition of the medieval village of Giroussens, the Ascension Grand Flea Market turns the streets and central square of the listed village into a bargain hunters' kingdom. A Tarn spring institution that draws hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors to one of Occitanie's most beautiful hilltop villages.
Every year, on Ascension Thursday, the medieval village of Giroussens breaks from its quiet pace to welcome its Grand Flea Market, an unmissable Tarn spring rendezvous organised by the Comité des Fêtes. The central square and the adjoining streets become a huge open-air bazaar where bargain hunters from Tarn, Haute-Garonne and beyond come to find treasures.
Perched above the Agout valley, Giroussens is listed among the most beautiful character villages of the Tarn. Historically renowned for its 17th-century earthenware workshops, it charms with its half-timbered houses, Gothic Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité church, medieval keep and cobbled lanes.
Hundreds of linear metres of stalls line the streets, mixing private sellers with professional dealers. Expect antique furniture, decor objects, crockery, knick-knacks, books, vinyl records, vintage toys, vintage clothing, postcards, farm tools, jewellery and curiosities of all kinds, often at very reasonable prices.
Around the stalls, the village takes on a festive atmosphere. Food is provided by local shops and several food trucks: grilled meats, fries, crêpes, regional dishes and Gaillac wines. Many visitors stay the whole day, mixing browsing with food and village exploration.
The Giroussens Grand Flea Market ranks among the Tarn's flagship brocante events, alongside the great Albi or Castres fairs.
The Giroussens Grand Flea Market returns on Thursday 14 May 2026, Ascension Day, in the streets of the listed medieval village. Hundreds of exhibitors, both private and professional, expected 8am-6pm. On-site food by local shops and food trucks.
