August 15th Flea Market on Fontevrault Square in Cherveix-Cubas, up to 40 exhibitors
Every August 15th, Fontevrault Square in Cherveix-Cubas hosts its annual flea market, an event that is an integral part of the summer life of this village in Périgord Noir. Up to 40 exhibitors, both professionals and private individuals, set up their stalls in this central square to offer bargain hunters a varied selection of flea market items and antiques.
With a maximum of 40 exhibitors, the Cherveix-Cubas flea market retains a human scale that appeals to lovers of quiet bargain hunting. People take their time to rummage, chat with sellers, and negotiate. Stalls offer Périgord country furniture, antique tableware, earthenware, trinkets, tools, books, and collectibles, in a village market atmosphere where everyone knows each other.
Fontevrault Square, named after the former abbey that marked the commune's history, is the heart of the village of Cherveix-Cubas. This open space, lined with local stone houses, is perfectly suited for setting up flea market stalls. August 15th being a public holiday, attendance is naturally high, attracting visitors from all over Périgord Noir and the neighboring Limousin region.
Cherveix-Cubas is a commune of about 700 inhabitants located in the Auvézère valley, between the towns of Hautefort and Excideuil. This area of eastern Périgord Noir is rich in heritage, with the nearby Château de Hautefort, one of the most majestic in Périgord, and the medieval fortress of Excideuil. The commune itself preserves vestiges of a priory founded by the Abbey of Fontevraud, which gave its name to the square hosting the flea market.
