The 8 May flea market in the Vexin: 50 to 100 sellers every year on the bank holiday in this Val-d'Oise village
Haravilliers (95640) is a small village in the Vexin Français Regional Natural Park, nestled in the rural bocage of north-west Val-d'Oise, about 20 km from Cergy and Magny-en-Vexin. Every year, the 8 May public holiday is an opportunity for the Fêtes Committee to organise a convivial flea market on the Rue de la Mairie, in the heart of the village.
The event brings together between 50 and 100 sellers, from the village and surrounding areas: private individuals offering bric-à-brac, clothing, toys and old items, as well as some professionals with antiques and curiosities. The atmosphere is convivial, with a refreshment stand and food on site, toilets and a vendor parking area, plus complimentary coffee for sellers in the morning. Entertainment is provided throughout the day.
Haravilliers takes its name from a Germanic etymology linked to the Frankish history of the region. Its meulière stone houses, church and rural paths make it an intact testament to the built heritage of the Vexin plateau. Located a few kilometres from Marines, the main town, Haravilliers is one of those rural communes that keeps local community life alive through events like the annual 8 May flea market.
