Flea market — Comité des Fêtes, 1st Sunday of July (51130)
The Brocante de Gionges, organized by the Comité des Fêtes of this commune now integrated into Blancs-Coteaux (51130), is held every first Sunday of July. This summer event brings together individuals and bargain hunters in a rural Champagne setting, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs vineyards, between Vertus and the hillsides of Épernay.
The Brocante de Gionges is an annual event organized by the Comité des Fêtes of Gionges, a rural commune now integrated into the new municipality of Blancs-Coteaux (51130). It is held every first Sunday of July, in the tradition of summer flea markets that once animated every village in the Champagne region of the Marne.
Gionges is a small hamlet-municipality in the Côte des Blancs, in the Vertus sector. This wine-growing area, whose vineyard landscapes were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2015, is dotted with villages with poetic names, each jealously guarding its festive traditions despite municipal mergers. The flea market on the first Sunday of July is one of its most popular expressions.
Organized by the local Comité des Fêtes, this flea market welcomes both individuals clearing out their attics and amateur dealers offering selected items. You can find the characteristic assortment of Champagne flea markets: rustic furniture, antique tableware, trinkets, books and magazines, garden and agricultural tools, vintage toys, embroidered linens. Items related to wine-growing life — pruning shears, miniature presses, collectible bottles — regularly appear.
The first Sunday of July is a strategic date for dealers in the Marne region: summer holidays are starting, the weather is favorable, and tourists passing through the Champagne vineyards can stop for a bargain hunting break. The Gionges flea market thus benefits from diverse attendance, between local residents and passing visitors.
Blancs-Coteaux (51130) is a new municipality created by the merger of several villages in the Côte des Blancs, including Vertus, Bergères-lès-Vertus, Gionges, and Voipreux. This administrative grouping does not erase the village identities: each former town retains its associations, its Comité des Fêtes, and its own events. The Gionges flea market testifies to this persistent local vitality within the new municipal entity.
