Annual flea market in the medieval village of Chavroches
Chavroches is one of the most picturesque villages in the Allier. Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Besbre valley, this medieval village has retained remarkable architectural heritage: 12th-15th century castle, Romanesque church, half-timbered houses and narrow streets. The annual flea market takes advantage of this exceptional setting.
The castle of Chavroches, with its towers and keep, overlooks the village and the Besbre valley below. The Romanesque church of Saint-Laurent, the old houses and the paved alleys form a coherent architectural ensemble, giving the flea market a unique atmosphere of treasure hunting in a period setting.
The Besbre, a tributary of the Loire, flows at the foot of the village in a green valley. This river has long marked the border between Bourbonnais and Beaujolais. The landscape of wooded hillsides and meadows surrounding Chavroches provides a pleasant natural setting for flea market visitors.
