Summer flea market by the water in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, at the foot of the castle
Every August, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle hosts its waterside flea market in one of the most spectacular settings in the Dordogne. Stalls are set up along the river, at the foot of Castelnaud castle, offering a breathtaking view of the Dordogne valley and Beynac castle on the opposite bank.
The flea market site, on the banks of the Dordogne, combines the coolness of the river with the beauty of the surrounding medieval heritage. Castelnaud castle, a 13th-century fortress now housing the Museum of Medieval Warfare, dominates the village with its crenellated towers. Below, the banks of the Dordogne offer a shaded and peaceful setting to stroll among the flea market stalls.
Located at the confluence of the Dordogne and the Céou, the village of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle is one of the most visited sites in the valley. In addition to Castelnaud castle, the commune is home to the Marqueyssac Gardens, famous for their hand-trimmed boxwood and breathtaking panoramas. The village is also a prime starting point for boat trips on the Dordogne and hikes in the wooded hills of the Périgord Noir.
From 8 am to 6 pm, the waterside flea market offers a wide selection of items: furniture, tableware, trinkets, old tools, books, paintings, and curiosities. The relaxed atmosphere of the Dordogne riverbanks and the quality of the natural setting make it a popular event for treasure hunters and tourists vacationing in the Périgord Noir.
