The great summer flea market organised by AMAC at the Léopold Sédar Senghor car park in Évry-Courcouronnes
Every September, the Association Municipale d'Actions Culturelles d'Évry (AMAC) organises a brocante flea market in the Léopold Sédar Senghor car park in Évry-Courcouronnes. Between 100 and 200 mixed sellers (private individuals and some professionals) gather in this iconic setting, steps from the Résurrection Cathedral and the Pyramides district designed by Oscar Niemeyer. Free entry, festive atmosphere guaranteed.
Évry-Courcouronnes is the prefecture of Essonne (91), born from the 2019 merger of Évry and Courcouronnes. With nearly 65,000 inhabitants, it is one of the department's most important cities and a cornerstone of the Grand Paris Sud agglomeration. Developed from the 1960s as part of France's new-town policy, Évry-Courcouronnes embodies the urban and social ambitions of that pioneering era.
The city's most striking feature is the Pyramides district, designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer in the 1970s. Its bold concrete pyramids and generous public spaces form a rare European architectural ensemble, regularly studied by fans of brutalist and modernist architecture. Nearby, the Cathédrale de la Résurrection, inaugurated in 1995, is the last 20th-century Catholic cathedral built in France, its rooftop tree a symbol of life and renewal.
Évry-Courcouronnes is also a dynamic student city, home to a branch of Université Paris-Saclay and several grandes écoles and research centres. The Centre Essonne Shopping mall, the Agora cultural complex and the RER D station make the city centre a major hub in southern Île-de-France, connected to Paris in under 30 minutes.
The AMAC is one of Évry-Courcouronnes's most active associations, organising cultural outings, neighbourhood events and every September the great brocante flea market that draws between 100 and 200 sellers to the Léopold Sédar Senghor car park. Free entry, a festive atmosphere and a mix of private and professional sellers ensure a rich selection of furniture, clothes, books, toys and vintage objects.
