A weekly solidarity sale

Bazoges-en-Pareds's Solidarity Sale is distinctive: a weekly fixture, not a one-off, every Wednesday (10-12, 2-7pm). Two logics: chine at solidarity prices, or drop off items that might still serve others. Books, clothes, bric-a-brac, working small items — all accepted.

Run by the Sel de Vapareso association — 'SEL' standing for Système d'Échange Local, a French-wide solidarity-economy movement fostering non-monetary exchanges between neighbours. The format offers a second life to objects and strengthens community ties.

2026 season

2026 sessions mainly April-June (summer break) and September-October — about 15 dates year-round. Wednesdays in September are particularly numerous. Indoor venue near the village, parking nearby.

Bazoges-en-Pareds, Haut-Bocage village

Commune of nearly 1,000 in the Vendée Haut-Bocage, near Pouzauges, Chantonnay and La Châtaigneraie. Famous for its remarkable 14th-century medieval donjon (visitable) towering over the village. Adjacent medieval garden a family favourite.

A small village, rich heritage

Bazoges is one of those Vendée villages with outstanding heritage despite modest size. Donjon, Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens church, dovecote, old houses — walkable. Bocage landscape with hedges, hollow roads and small valleys.

Sel de Vapareso

Gathers Bazoges and nearby inhabitants (Vapareso being a local acronym). Focus: non-market exchanges and neighbour solidarity. The sale is their most visible public activity.

Extending the visit

Visit the donjon and medieval garden. Saint-Maurice-des-Noues, Saint-Sulpice-en-Pareds, La Châtaigneraie. Pouzauges (20 min) for its windmills and panoramic view.
