Clothing sales are a staple of the Vendée community calendar — buy second-hand clothes (often in great shape) at very low prices, and sell what you no longer wear. The by-season format (spring-summer / autumn-winter) works well: clothes match the current season.

What to find

• Adult seasonal clothes (men and women)
• Kids and baby clothes
• Shoes and accessories
• Swimwear, beachwear
• Light pieces: dresses, shorts, t-shirts, skirts
• Sometimes: linens, misc textiles

Principle: depositors entrust clothes which are labelled and put on sale. Organisers take a small percentage to cover costs. Unsold returned to depositor or donated to charity per their choice.

Essarts en Bocage, new commune

Created in 2016 from the merger of four communes: Les Essarts, L'Oie, Boulogne and Sainte-Florence. Nearly 8,000 inhabitants. Les Essarts (former main town) is famous for its medieval château ruins — superbly preserved — and its lively town centre.

In the Vendée bocage

Typical bocage land between Chantonnay and Saint-Fulgent. Meadows, hedges, small woods, hamlets. Strong community and festive identity.

Extending the visit

The Essarts château ruins are worth the trip: one of Vendée's finest medieval sites. The bocage invites walks. Puy du Fou is 30 min away.
